Australian Passport Information
The Australian Passport Office (APO) is currently experiencing strong demand for passports. For this reason, it is advising its customers to apply for or renew their passport well ahead of their planned travel dates. If you lodge a passport application in Myanmar, passports are currently subject to around 2 weeks delivery time, in addition to APO’s current 6-week processing timeframe.
Appointments for Passport Services
The Embassy is open from Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm, excluding observed public holidays.
The Embassy is operating by appointment only for passport services.
Booking policy
- Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your appointment time for security screening.
- You may be asked to reschedule your appointment if you do not attend on time.
- Bookings can be made up to four weeks in advance.
- You can amend, reschedule, or cancel your appointment via the link in your notification email.
- Please ensure you select the correct type and number of services you require when you make the appointment. If you select the wrong service, we may not be able to assist you at your appointment time and you may need to reschedule. You must have an appointment to visit our offices.
- Please do not bring friends or family members to your appointment unless they are required to sign relevant documents.
- If you are feeling unwell, please reschedule your appointment.
Lodging a Passport Application
Passport applications can be lodged in-person or under certain circumstances they can be mailed to the Embassy for processing.
First time passport applicants will need to lodge their application in person or in the case of a minor (under 18) by one person with parental responsibility for the minor.

Which Passport Application Form do I complete?
Adults who are renewing their Australian passports overseas can use the Australian Passport Renewal Application Form (PC7) if ALL of the following are true:
- was issued when you were aged 16 or older
- was issued on or after 1 January 2006
- had, when it was issued, at least two years’ validity
- has your current name, date of birth, place of birth and gender, and
- has not been reported lost, stolen, or cancelled
All other applicants must use the Overseas Passport Application Form (PC8). This includes the following applicants:
- you have never applied for a passport before;
- your previous passport was issued when you were a minor under 18 years of age;
- your previous passport was an Emergency Passport;
- you are renewing a child's passport;
- your previous passport was lost or stolen;
- you have changed your personal details;
- you are renewing a passport which has been seriously damaged
Guarantors for a Passport Application
If your passport application requires a guarantor, they must meet the following criteria:
- is 18 years of age or over
- has known the applicant for at least 12 months
- is not related to the applicant by birth, marriage, de facto or same sex relationship, or live at the applicant's address (please do not use your helper to as a guarantor, as they will be ineligible as they live with you at your address)
- holds a current (unexpired) Australian passport that was issued with at least two years validity OR be currently employed in the following approved professional or occupational group.
- Accountants who are employed by companies, institutes, local or international organisations
- Bank Managers
- Clerk of Courts
- Dentists
- Judges
- Lawyers
- Policer Officers with at least 5 years continuous full-time service
- Postal Managers
- Public Servants or government officials who are currently full-time employees of local government office and have been employed continuously for at least 5 years by their current employer
- Registered Medical Practitioners (Doctors and GPs only)
- Registered Nurses or Mid - wives
- Registered Pharmacists
- Teachers - with at least 5 years continuous full-time service

Mode of Payment
The Australian Embassy accepts payment by cash only in Myanmar Kyat (MMK) or by Visa or Mastercard in Australian Dollars. The Embassy does not accept payment by cash in USD or Australian dollars.

Passport Collection
An appointment is required to collect the passport. Please bring the current original passport and the collection form given to you at the time of your passport application lodgement.
