Child Migration

The Department of Immigration and Border Protection has a Child Booklet designed to help you understand who qualifies to migrate to Australia, and how to make an application. The booklet also contains the necessary information along with the relevant application forms.

There are different types of visas for child migration.

Child (Subclass 101)

For children from overseas who are the child of an Australian citizen, the holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or eligible New Zealand citizen.

Orphan Relative (Subclass 117)

For children from overseas whose parents are deceased, permanently incapacitated, or whose whereabouts are unknown and who have an eligible sponsor.

Adoption (Subclass 102)

For children from overseas who have been or are about to be adopted by an Australian citizen, the holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or eligible New Zealand citizen.

If you are planning to adopt a child overseas, please be aware that the Australian Embassy Visa and Immigration Section cannot give advice or information on adoption requirements or the adoption process in Myanmar (or any other country).

Please refer to the department\'s website for the following Adopting a Child from Outside Australia.

Important: If the child was adopted before the parent became an Australian citizen, the holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or eligible New Zealand citizen, they should instead apply for a Child visa (subclass 101)

Dependent Child Visa (Subclass 445)

For children whose parent holds a temporary partner visa and is in the process of obtaining a permanent partner visa.

All applicants must undergo a medical examination. In some circumstances you may be requested to undertake character requirements. More information explaining the health and character requirements are available from this website. See:Health requirements and Character requirements.
